Dermatoglyphics Reveals Learning Style

Individual learning styles and characteristics consist of three factors :

  1. What is the easiest method for you to acquire information ?
  2. How do your organize, process and filter information ?
  3. What environment and conditions affect your learning process ?

New York Saint John University Ken and Rita Dunn conducted research on student’s learning styles. They discovered that about 30% of the students still recalled 75% of the lecture content after a session. To achieve the same retention rate, about 40% of the students need to read through the content (including words and illustrations), about 15% needs physical stimuli and the remaining 15% needs bodily-kinesthetic learning experiences.

From the above it is concluded that different children have different learning styles….which can be generally classified in the following three categories :

AuditoryVisualKinesthetic

Children having auditory learning style learn better through hearing…..i.e. learn better through lectures. Children having visual learning style learn better through visualizing….i.e. they will learn more if taught with the help of diagrams or figures etc. Whereas children having kinesthetic learning style learn better through hands-on experience i.e. they learn and understand more when they are allowed to experiment themselves what they have learned…they need to do things themselves to understand the concept.

BUT THE PROBLEM IS………….. Traditional teaching methods tend to use only one teaching style to cater to all. For students who have visual and auditory learning styles, this method is extremely effective, but it is not beneficial for students having other learning styles. So it is very important that individual learning style of each child is identified as early as possible and then he/she should be put into an environment which suits his/her learning styles so that the learning process could be efficient and effective.

DERMATOGLYPHICS helps parents and teachers to identify the learning style of the child and then to teach them in the manner which is most easy and interesting for the child. Teaching according to the learning style also motivates the child to learn more and learning becomes fun and stress free.
